CURRENT NEWS: There is currently unprecedented demand for home insulation.
There is unprecedented demand for insulation across the industry at present, due to the recently announced offer of free insulation for the over 70's.
Many of the country's installers are struggling to keep up with demand in 2008. Although booking a survey will be relatively immediate, the installation may take somewhat longer to arrange and the longer it is left, the lower the likelihood of being insulated ready for winter 2008/2009.
Our best advice is to book your survey NOW. Please use the enquiry system above to do so.
Home insulation grants of around 45-55%, rising to 70% towards loft or cavity wall insulation are available - whatever your income - and 100% if you are on an eligible benefit or tax credit, see below for details. 100% home insulation grants are also available to the over 70's and for those whose main income is the state pension.
Whoever you use to provide your insulation, if you are not eligible for a 100% grant, you'll be asked to make a contribution towards it.
The contribution you will be asked to make are pretty much standard throughout the industry, so if you're serious about getting insulation, please make an enquiry from these pages.
If you know of someone in your area who might also be eligible, it will help the insulation surveyors and installers to reduce their own carbon footprint if they can survey and insulate several properties in the same area at once. Please inform your friends and neighbours about this web site as soon as possible after making your own enquiry and together we can all make a difference.
However, if you're simply after advice, please visit http://www.energysavingtrust.org.uk
If you receive a credit or benefit, or fulfill one of the requirements listed below, you are likely to be eligible for a 100% grant.:
- Attendance Allowance
- Council Tax Benefit
- Disability Living allowance
- Housing Benefit
- Pension Credit
- Income Support
- Income based Job Seekers Allowance
- Child Tax Credit (maximum household income of £14,600)

.How to check if your property is suitable for cavity wall insulation; Many London properties are NOT suitable.

It will have been built after the 1920's.
In the case of brick constructed houses if the bricks are all laid “side-on” and the walls are about 300mm (12in) thick, they probably have cavities.
Its brick pattern will be similar to the higher image on the right.
If they have a regular pattern of “side on and end on” brickwork
they are usually 225mm (9in) - or the brick length - thick and more likely
to be solid walls:
Cavity wall brick pattern is NOT as shown on the lower image which shows a typical solid brick wall.

- Loft insulation and cavity wall insulation, energy retaining glazing, Heat-Harvester™, Sunpipes, modern gas central heating systems, solar water heating systems, wind turbines (coming soon) ~ all these can help to reduce the amount of energy used in heating and lighting and reduce bills enormously.
- Low energy lamps last up to ten times longer than ordinary bulbs and use far less electricity - so you can do your bit towards saving the planet from climate change too.
- Remember to turn off lights when you leave a room for long periods.
- Use an eco-kettle to boil water for cooking - they're more efficient at getting up to temperature. Avoid over-filling the kettle but be sure to cover the element.
- Where you need to use saucepans - use the lid and turn down the heat!! Less energy is lost that way. Highly efficient hobs are now available more news about that later.
- Use a toaster rather than the grill to make toast.
- Make sure your hot water tank and hot water pipes are fully lagged, this can pay for itself in a few months and go on saving you money for years to come.
- Put draught strips around windows and exterior doors. If possible fit a flap across the letter-box.
- Where possible wait until you have a full load before using your washing machine.
- If you use a dishwasher select the low-temperature programme unless you have very soiled dishes.
- If you have a dripping tap ensure it is repaired quickly. In just one day, you could waste enough hot water to fill a bath.
- Switch off your TV, video and Hi-Fi at the set. Standby can use as much as 10%-60% of the power that would be used by the device if it was switched on.
- Defrost fridges and freezers regularly to keep them running efficiently.
- Shower if possible, rather than take a bath, this saves money and water.
- At night, pull all curtains to stop heat loss through the windows. Take care not to drape curtains over radiators as this will funnel heat straight out of the windows.
- Don't set your water thermostat too high; 60°C/140°F is usually adequate for bathing and washing.
- Reducing your room temperature by just 1°C can cut as much as 10% off your heating bills.
- Turn off the tap whilst brushing your teeth. If everyone in the country did so, it would save millions of litres of wasted water every DAY!! Producing and transporting water is expensive and uses energy.
